2 people dead in Kirinyaga crash

Two people died in a road accident at Kiangwaci area along the Sagana-Karatina road in Kirinyaga County on Friday.

Confirming the incident, Mwea-west OCPD Samuel Saurey said a male police officer was heading to Kiganjo Police College from Nairobi using a motorcycle when he collided with a cyclist near Kiangwaci police post.

Saurey said the cyclist died on the spot, while the police officer died while being taken to Murang’a hospital by a Good Samaritan.

The OCPD urged drivers and road users to follow traffic rules on the busy Makutano-Sagana-Karatina road, to reduce the number of road accidents.

Motorists have been urged to exercise extra caution over the rainy season, as the weather could make roads extra slippery.

Speaking in a live interview on Citizen TV after the Huruma tragedy, Infrastructure PS John Mosonik warned driver against driving on flooded roads.

“Drivers should keep off flooded roads, even if the water levels appear to be low. With the heavy rains, flash floods can occur and cars can be swept away instantly,” he stated.

He urged public service vehicle owners to prioritise safety over profits.
