2.4 Billion Needed To Fight Hunger In Turkana

The hunger has been caused by persistent drought in Turkana.
The Turkana county government says it needs a total of 2.4billion shillings to feed the hungry population.
The Turkana county executive minister in charge of disaster management and preparedness, Charles Ewoi Lokyoto said that the county government of Turkana through his ministry has tried to supply food but they have been overwhelmed due to the high population.
He termed the current famine being experienced in Turkana as enormous and beyond control.
The total population of Turkana residents affected by drought is 440,845.
In his report, Lokyoto confirmed that Turkana County has a population 845,355 people and half that population is dying of hunger.
Turkana County is one of the largest arid areas which covers a total of 77,000km squared.
In 2010 an initiative driven by Kenyans for Kenya was initiated to help Turkana County and billions of money was contributed towards the initiative.
