Three
people, including a couple, have been killed in Homa Bay during a rainfall
which pounded the county on Sunday night.
In
the first incident, a 34-year-old man and his wife were killed by lightning
while their two daughters escaped at Aluor Village, Lambwe East location in
Suba North constituency.
According
to the Chief of Lambwe East Location Benard Ouma, the couple was watching TV
when the lightning struck, killing them instantly.
Ouma
said the lightning also broke electric cables from a solar panel on the roof of
their house.
The
couple’s two daughters aged six and four years escaped the tragedy and were
found in the morning sleeping on the chairs.
The
administrator said that the lightning also killed a bull and removed its tongue
in the same homestead.
In the other, a 38-year-old man identified as Fred Otieno was killed by
flood water after the heavy rainfall near Kodero Beach in Rachuonyo North
Sub-county.
The
chairman of Beach Management Units in West Karachuonyo ward Samuel Osendo said
Otieno was climbing a hill when he met the ordeal.
Families displaced
At
the same time, over eight families have been displaced by floods at Tausi Beach in Karachuonyo
constituency.
The
families were forced to quit their homes and seek refuge at their relatives’
homes on higher grounds, as some also lost their household items which were
swept away to Lake Victoria.
Additionally,
strong winds blew off two classrooms, an office and a teacher’s house at Kibaga
Primary School within the same ward.
The
school’s headteacher Stephen Obel said learning materials, including books and
laptops, were also damaged in the incident.
He
has appealed to the area leaders and other well-wishers to come to their aid.
