32 boda boda riders arrested over assault of female motorist, to be arraigned on Tuesday

At least 16 more persons and 7 additional motorcycles have
been arrested and impounded by police respectively, in connection to a Friday incident
in which a female motorist was accosted and sexually assaulted by bodaboda riders
along Wangari Maathai road.
This is according to Police spokesperson Bruno Shioso who
now says that a total of 32 persons have been apprehended and 12 motorcycles seized
following the horrifying incident which has since gone viral.
“When we began this show I mentioned that there were 16
arrested but by now the numbers have increased to 32, with now around 12
motorcycles impounded and it is just because of that outcry,” Shioso said in an
interview on Citizen TV's Monday Report show.
He added that the police force will strive
to capture all the boda boda riders who were caught on camera during the
assault citing that the 32 suspects will be arraigned in court on Tuesday
morning.
“We have very good leads. The moment you arrest one or
two, they will lead you to others. We are still pursuing court and they will be
arraigned in court straight away. They have to go through the criminal justice
program,” he added.
The police spokesperson likewise commended Nairobi County’s
different area police departments for working in tandem with the in order to track down the assailants and bring them to book for their
actions.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank the Nairobi area
command. They are doing a fantastic job in coordinating all this operation,” he
said.
With the national and secondary examinations having kicked
off on Monday, Shioso also chimed in on an early morning incident in Baringo in
which KCPE proceedings at a local primary school were interrupted by suspected
bandits.
Shioso underscored that the National Police Service will
work tirelessly to ensure the safety of the candidates and that the examinations
carry on seamlessly as scheduled.
“We want to assure all candidates that they are very safe
and men and women are on the ground with very clear instructions and mandate of
protecting them,” he said.
