5 teachers sacked over 2018 KCSE exam irregularities TSC boss

Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia has stated that five teachers have already been sacked over their roles in the 2018 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination malpractices.

Speaking during the release of the KCSE results on Wednesday, Ms. Macharia said the five were part of 62 malpractice cases forwarded to her office from the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).

“Investigations are going on in the other cases, we will ensure the cases are conducted within the shortest time possible and that we must do away with teachers who can’t comply with the regulations,” said Ms. Macharia.

She, however, lauded the thousands of teachers who carried themselves with diligence during the examination period terming them “our unsung heroes and heroines.”

“This year, I wish to recognise 40 men and women in the teaching service who have consistently rendered exemplary service as examiners for 20 years and above. Over the years, they have risen to the positions of either Chief Examiner or Assistant Chief Examiner,” she stated.

The TSC boss further added that the commission would forward the names of the said 40 to President Uhuru Kenyatta for conferment of awards and honours.

Ms. Macharia also directed all TSC county and sub-county directors to ensure that from January next year all teachers in public or private learning institutions are fully qualified and registered.

“Further, and critically important, we will be seeking to amend the TSC Act to provide for dismissal and deregistration of any teacher involved in examination cheating,” she added.

“The deregistration of such teachers will ensure they are completely removed from the teaching profession and the examination process even outside this country.”
