70-year-old man who fled after stabbing nephew in Kirinyaga found dead

The 70-year-old man who was being sought after killing his nephew on Monday in Togonye, Mewa East, Kirinyaga County, has been found dead.

According to his relatives, Patrick Gichobi was found hanging from a tree on Tuesday evening by people who had gone to look for grass for their cattle.

“We found him hanging from a mango tree. We suspect he hanged himself after killing Ian,” Joan Mwangi told Citizen Digital.

Gicobi killed 24-year-old Ian Mwendia after they arrived home on Monday at around 5 pm from a drinking spree in the local village bar, the relatives said.

The 70-year-old stabbed Mwendia with a kitchen knife after a quarrel. He succumbed to the injuries at the Kerugoya Hospital.

The two bodies were taken to at Kerugoya mortuary.
