The Senate adhoc Committee investigating the proliferation of religious organizations on Saturday night raided a church in Kisumu and rescued 8 people who were being offered prayers.

The committee, led by its chairwoman, Nominated Senator Shakila Mohammed raided Holy Ghost Coptic Church on the outskirts of Kisumu City.

The committee, which was accompanied by the Kisumu County Security Team, visited the church run by controversial Archbishop Father John Pesa.

Shakila says the church had no license to keep sick people in his church, promising that police officers will continue to comb the church to get rid of any patient detained for prayers at the church.

"Hakuna kibali cha kuweka wagonjwa hapa, wala hakuna kibali kanisa yoyote kuweka wagonjwa, wagonjwa wapelekwe hospitali," Shakila said.

Addressing the media after the raid, Shakila said the environment in which the patients were held was deplorable and unacceptable.

Those rescued were taken to Kisumu county hospital , psychiatric section to receive medical attention.

"Ile hali hawa watu wamewekwa ni hali ambayo haistahili, ni kama wanyama, wamefungiwa na kufuli na wakawekewa ndoo ya kuenda choo, ni kama Shakhola ndogo," Shakila added.
