88 people test positive for COVID-19 from 4,681 samples; no death reported

The Ministry of Health on Thursday announced that 88 people contracted COVID-19 from a sample size of 4,681 tested in the last 24 hours.

The positivity rate is now at 1.9%, with total confirmed positive cases rising to 254,541 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 2,785,672.

From the cases, 87 are Kenyans and one is a foreigner; 68 are males and 20 are females, while the youngest is a two-year-old child and the oldest is 84 years.

The cases were distributed across various counties namely; Bungoma 43, Mombasa 7, Nairobi 6, Busia 6, Kakamega 5, Makueni 5, Nakuru 5, Kericho 3, Nandi 1, Narok 1, Nyeri 1, Turkana 1, Uasin Gishu 1, West Pokot 1, Baringo 1 and Homa Bay 1.

The ministry also said 26 patients recovered from the coronavirus disease, with 20 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 6 were discharged from health facilities countrywide. Total recoveries rose to 247,817.

There was however no deaths reported, hence the cumulative fatalities remain at 5,325.

“A total of 364 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 997 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program,” read a statement by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.

“23 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 10 of whom are on ventilatory support and 13 on supplemental oxygen. No patient is under observation.”

The statement added: “Another 115 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 113 of them are in the general wards. Two patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).”

The CS further said a total of 6,245,698 vaccines had so far been administered across the country as of November 17, 2021.

Of these, 3,944,709 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 2,300,989. The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 54.8%. Proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 8.4%.
