9 Moi University students accused of spreading hate messages freed on Ksh.500K bail each

The nine Moi University students who were arraigned for allegedly circulating hate speech flyers in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County have been released on a Ksh.500,000 cash bail or Ksh.1 million bond.

The accused students Ronald Odhiambo, Martin Rodgers, Josphat Chacha, Ian Muibanda, Brian Kipkorir, Denis Wakhanya, Beatrice Wanhari, Samwel Juma and Ann Aoko appeared before Eldoret judge Onkoba Mogire.

The court heard that on July 29, 2022, the students participated in spreading false messages of incitement on a WhatsApp group at Moi University- Main Campus located in Kesses.

The students were charged with three counts, among them, spreading false messages and creating tension in the area ahead of the General Election next week.

They denied the charges levelled against them. The case will be mentioned on August 22, 2022.
