90-year-old man killed, robbed off 'Inua Jamii' cash in Makueni

Police in Kibwezi, Makueni county have launched an investigation after a 90-year-old man was brutally killed by unknown persons and robbed off his money on Tuesday.
According to local area chief Nicolas Mwonga, the elderly man was accosted by the assailants just after he had left a bank in Metava area where he had gone to withdraw money he received through the Injua Jamii cash transfer programme.
Chief Mwonga noted that the attackers slit the man's throat and then later disappeared with the money.
The body has been moved to the Kambu hospital mortuary.
Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched to capture the suspects who are still at large.
The Inua Jamii programme under the Ministry of Labour targets orphans and vulnerable children, older persons and persons with severe disabilities.
Under the Inua Jamii programme, the beneficiaries are eligible to a Ksh. 2000 monthly stipend.
