The Automobile
Association of Kenya (AA Kenya) has launched the Best Driver Challenge –
Nairobi Edition, as part of a broader national campaign to identify, recognize,
and reward the country’s most responsible and safety-conscious drivers.
The initiative is
targeting a broad spectrum of road users, among them private motorists, matatu
and bus drivers, corporate fleet operators, long-distance truck drivers, and
boda boda riders.
According to the
association, the challenge seeks to promote positive driving habits that not
only save lives but also reduce the frequency and severity of road incidents.
“Our goal is to
celebrate the everyday heroes who put safety first,” said Francis Theuri, CEO
of AA Kenya. “Through this challenge, we’re shifting the national conversation
from punishment to recognition and inspiring all drivers to do better.”
Regional
competitions are currently being held in key towns and cities across the
country, including Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Eldoret, Nyeri, and Nairobi.
Participants are tested on both theoretical and practical aspects of driving.
These include
knowledge of road rules and regulations, defensive driving techniques, vehicle
safety inspections, and on-road performance and behavior under pressure.
Winners from the
regional contests will converge in Nairobi for the national grand finale set
for July 19, 2025.
The top performer
will be crowned the overall Best Driver Kenya 2025 and will receive a trophy,
cash prize, national recognition, and certification as an AA Kenya Road Safety
Ambassador.
The winner will
then go on to represent Kenya in a continental Best Driver Challenge to be held
in Naivasha.
The event will
bring together top drivers from other African countries and is expected to be a
major highlight in Africa’s road safety calendar, showcasing the power of
skill, discipline, and responsibility on the road.
