Governor Nassir took his oath of office at the Mama Ngina Waterfront, Mombasa on Thursday.
Shortly after taking his oath he appended his signature on certificates of the oaths of office.
Deputy governor Francis Thoya subsequently took his oath and signed his certificates.
Governor Nassir served as Mvita MP in the 12th parliament and follows into the footsteps of his late father Shariff Nassir bin Taib who was the most voluble politician in the coastal region during President Moi's regime.
Nassir was declared winner in the Mombasa mini-elections, which had been postponed by the IEBC due to a few discrepancies, garnering 119,083 votes.
He trounced his top rival Hassan Omar Sarai who emerged second with 98,105 votes. He contested under an ODM ticket.
