Accuse police of extrajudicial killings and I will withdraw your security, Nkaissery tells CORD

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has warned Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leaders against accusing police of extra-judicial killings, saying that they risk losing their security detail if they express such sentiments.

Addressing the public at Oloodokilani in Kajiado West, the CS stated that is imprudent for leaders to disparage the police force, yet they rely on the same officers for protection.

“You are repeatedly abusing the police saying they cannot be trusted, yet a police officer stands behind you. You want to be a leader; will you then disband the police force when you take office?” Nkaissery asked.

The Retired Major-General went on to state that should the leaders continue to discredit the police force, he will withdraw their VIP security detail.

“You better think twice before you make those kinds of statements. If you keep saying police officers cannot be trusted, I will withdraw your security detail,” he warned.

Following the death of prominent businessman Jacob Juma, a section of Opposition leaders have pointed accusatory fingers at the police and other state agencies.

Speaking at Lee Funeral Home last Friday, Coalition for Reforms and Democracy leader Raila Odinga stated that local investigating agencies cannot be trusted to probe Juma’s death as they are complicit.

“People who are supposed to investigate are the killers. I call upon Kenyans to resist this state of anarchy. We can’t live in a country where security agents meant to protect people are the ones eliminating them,” Raila said.

The former Prime Minister went on to list a number of killings that have taken place in recent times, stating that extrajudicial killings have become commonplace in Kenya.

“Mungiki members have been killed, Imams have been killed, Meshack Yebei was kidnapped in Eldoret and his body dumped in Tsavo and many more continue to be killed this way,” Raila said.

A probe into the death of slain businessman Juma is underway even as his family lays him to rest in Bungoma.

The businessman’s widow, Mrs Miriam Juma, called for the involvement of America’s Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) or Scotland Yard in the investigation into her husband’s killing.

“We as a family fully support the engagement of foreign help – that is the FBI or Scotland Yard to assist in the investigations of Jacob’s assassination. We are also looking to engage the services of a private investigator,” Mrs Juma said.

Jacob Juma is being laid to rest today, 14 May, in Bungoma.
