The Afgab clan, a major sub-group within the
Auliyahan community, has endorsed Abdikheyr Abdullahi Dubow, popularly known as
Kheirow, as its preferred candidate for the 2027 Dadaab parliamentary
elections.
The endorsement, made during a community meeting on Thursday, is seen as a move to consolidate political unity within the
Afgab ahead of the next general election. The clan has historically played a
significant role in shaping electoral outcomes in Dadaab Constituency.
Kheirow first contested the parliamentary
seat in the 2022 elections against incumbent Farah Maalim.
Following a series of consultations after the
2022 polls, Afgab elders and opinion leaders unanimously agreed to back Kheirow
for the 2027 race. The leaders cited his earlier performance and ability to
unite the clan’s support base as key factors behind their decision.
“The endorsement signals the community’s
intention to present a unified front and strengthen its political voice in
Dadaab,” said one of the elders who attended the meeting.
Speaking after the endorsement, Kheirow
thanked the Afgab community for their confidence and called for broader unity
within the Auliyahan and Dadaab communities. He urged residents to look beyond
clan divisions and focus on development and inclusive leadership.
