After ditching ODM, Isaac Mwaura loses in Ruiru’s Jubilee Primaries

Nominated ODM MP Isaac Mwaura on Wednesday, April 26, conceded defeat – this coming after the provisional results of Jubilee Party’s Ruiru Constituency primaries showed that he was not going to clinch the ticket.

Mwaura, who jumped ship from ODM to join President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party August 2015, bowed out of the race, posting a lengthy statement on his official Facebook page.

“The results are out and the people of Ruiru have spoken on who should be their next Member of Parliament. We did our best and we live to fight for another day,” Mwaura wrote.

Despite flopping in the nominations exercise, Mwaura opined that his attempt was not completely futile.

The MP, who has been vocal about the challenges he has faced because he lives with albinism, said that candidature proved that people living with disability could take part in elective politics.

“It has helped fight stigma and discrimination, break glass ceiling, push the awareness and inclusion agenda forward, and inspire many other people in our great country and beyond to stand up and be counted,” Mwaura said.

In the same breath, he encouraged his supporters to back businessman Simon Ng’ang’a come August 8.

“To all my supporters, let us support the winner Simon Ng’ang’a King’ara of whom I called at 4.11 am and congratulated him. I wish him well in serving the people of Ruiru and wish to assure him of my full support in exercising his mandate, for leadership almost invariably, has capacity to transform society,” read Mwaura’s statement.

Should Simon Ng’ang’a be declared winner by Jubilee Party, this will be his second appearance on the Ruiru Constituency ballot paper as he lost to incumbent MP Esther Gathogo in 2013.
