The Akamba Clans Council of Elders has announced a collaboration with the Nairobi County administration aimed at strengthening civic participation and advancing community-driven development initiatives within the capital.

Addressing the media on Friday, officials from the Akamba Clan Governing Council of Elders said the partnership brings together community leadership and county administrators to enhance structured engagement, promote social cohesion, and improve awareness of governance and development programmes among Akamba residents living in Nairobi.

The meeting was attended by Trade CEC Anastacia Nyalita alongside several chief officers, including Bernard Kiala, George Mutuso, and Peter Mutua.

In a joint statement, the elders reaffirmed that their constitution prohibits participation in partisan politics but allows them to support the government of the day through social, educational, and development-oriented initiatives.

“As the Akamba Clan Governing Council of Elders, our constitution is clear that we do not engage in politics, but we fully support the government of the day in matters of development and social progress for our people,” the Council Chairman, Boniface James Kilonzo said.

Among the key resolutions reached was a renewed call encouraging Akamba residents to register as voters in their respective wards across the city. The council also pledged to spearhead civic education forums focused on governance, development priorities, and responsible citizen participation, with the aim of empowering residents to make informed decisions.

“We shall work closely with government officers to conduct civic education and urge our people in Nairobi to register as voters so that they can effectively participate in leadership and development matters affecting their community,” the Chairman added.

Leaders present noted that the collaboration is designed to strengthen the link between grassroots community structures and formal government institutions, describing councils of elders as important bridges for mobilization, dialogue, and inclusive development.

The initiative is expected to roll out through a series of outreach meetings, public forums, and educational drives across various estates in the city in the coming weeks.
