Albert Ojwang murder case: Police officer James Mukhwana detained until June 20

This follows an application by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), which has requested that Mukwana be detained for at least 21 days to allow for the completion of investigations into the death of blogger Albert Ojwang at Central Police Station.

In court, investigating officer Abdirahman Jibril argued that releasing Mukwana at this stage could jeopardize the investigation, claiming he may interfere with witnesses.

However, Mukwana’s lawyer, Danstan Omari, opposed the application, stating there are no compelling reasons for continued detention. He told the court that Mukwana voluntarily presented himself to the authorities when summoned, showing willingness to cooperate.

Meanwhile, IPOA is also seeking a court order to compel Safaricom to release subscriber information, call records, and location data for at least 17 mobile phone numbers believed to be linked to the case.

Mukhwana was arrested on Thursday in connection with the killing of the late Alfred Ojwang' who is believed to have been tortured and killed at Nairobi's Central Police Station.
