All set for Presidential candidates debate at Catholic university

The stage is set for the Presidential debate set to take place, on Tuesday, July 26th at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa auditorium.

In a statement issued on Monday, Kenya Presidential Debates Secretariat confirmed that the debate will go on as planned despite Azimio La Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga announcing he will not attend.

"The Kenya Presidential Debates Secretariat 2022 has taken note of the positions taken by the Kenya Kwanza and the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party regarding their participation in the 2022 Presidential Debate. We confirm to the public that the 2022 Presidential Debate will take place on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at the Catholic University for Eastern Africa (CUEA) main campus in Karen, Nairobi, from 4:00pm to 10:00pm," said the secretariat.

"In accordance with the Presidential Debate Guidelines, we have shared the thematic areas with all the candidates and the moderators will endeavour to cover all the said topics within the set timeline."

The debate will be conducted in two tiers, with the participants drawn according to how they have polled in the last three opinion polls.

Those with less than five percent in the opinion polls will take the first round of the debate, which means David Mwaure of  Agano Party and Professor George Wajackoya of Roots PArty will face off in the first tier session of the debates, while those with over 5% will go head to head in the second tier debate.

The second debate will be moderated by Citizen TV's Yvonne Okwara and Eric Latif of Standard Group while the first debate will be Moderated by Ken Mijungu and Smriti Vidyarthi.
