Amb Amina Mohamed speaks out after AUC loss

Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed has spoken openly for the first time since she was trounced in her bid to become the African Union Commission chair on Monday.

Amina said Kenya would have to probe allegations that the East African Community abandoned Kenya during the vote that saw Chad’s Moussa Faki Mahamat win the seat during the seventh round of voting.

Speaking in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the CS expressed disappointment that African countries are divided along language lines as the AU vote saw Francophone states face off with Anglophones.

Amina, however, intimated that the vote loss was a good lesson for Kenya moving forward, adding that she would return to continue with her job at the helm of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This comes even as newly elected African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat pledged to work with all African leaders in fostering African socio-economic transformation through the African Union and implementation of Agenda 2063.

Speaking moments after he was elected at the helm of the regional bloc, Mahamat stated that he would see to it that Agenda 2063 is implemented.

The strategic framework seeks to accelerate the implementation of past and existing continental initiatives for growth and sustainable development.
