Another KCSE candidate commits suicide over disappointing results

A student in Narok County has committed suicide over his performance in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam.

Ledama Rono, 21, took his own life on Friday night by ingesting a chemical used in killing ticks at his home village of Enooretet in Narok, the family told Citizen Digital.

The deceased is a former student at Osinoni Secondary School in Transmara, also in Narok, where he wrote his exams this year and scored a C minus grade.

A member of the family said the boy had been suspected to be undergoing frustrations since the release of the KCSE results on Tuesday, saying “others in the village performed better than him.”

This is the second reported incident of a KCSE candidate taking their own life, after a female student in Migori county plunged herself into a borehole on December 21, a day after the release of the exam results.

Carren Ouma, 22, who sat the KCSE exam for the second time this year and scored a C minus, was allegedly quarreled by her parents over her “poor performance”. Investigations into the matter are still on going.
