Another party announces support for Uhuru’s 2017 re-election bid

The Democratic Party of Kenya (DP) has announced that it will support President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2017 General Election.

However, the party leader Joseph Munyao maintained that the party will not merge or form an alliance with any coalition in the country, ahead of next polls.

Addressing party members after opening DP offices in Mombasa County on Friday, Munyao said they will instead field candidates for other elective positions.

He insisted that the party’s dual mission is to popularize itself across the country and to identify candidates across the 47 counties.

The DP leader added that they are not ready to repeat the mistake they made during the 2013 polls, where their presidential candidate Mbeere MP Mutava Musyimi pulled out of the race at the last minute.

He urged party members to drum up support for President Kenyatta’s re-election bid in next year’s polls.

Munyao was accompanied by the party National Chairman Esau Kioni.

The Party for National Unity (PNU) has also announced that it would support Uhuru’s re-election bid though sticking to its resolve not to dissolve and join Jubilee Party.
