Police say they have
arrested a sixth suspect in the ongoing probe over a string of violent robberies in Nakuru.
Elijah Kimani
Kinyanjui was arrested in an operation in the Mzee wa Nyama area, according to
the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
“In his
possession were found exhibits recently robbed from a Pakawa resident by armed
gunmen,” DCI said in a Wednesday statement, adding that Kinyanjui will be enjoined
in the case facing the earlier charged suspects.
On Monday, DCI said
they arrested seven suspects, including a recently released ex-convict, in
connection with the wave of deadly robberies that have gripped the town in
recent weeks.
Outside the agency’s
offices in Nakuru, security officials displayed an AK-47 rifle believed to have
been used in the robberies.
The arrests follow a
violent incident on Sunday night when a police constable was fatally shot while
on patrol in the Freehold area.
Two other officers
were injured—one in the stomach, the other in the shoulder—and are currently
receiving treatment at Nakuru Level Five Hospital.
Six suspects are detained
over the shooting as investigations continue.
