Arrest warrant for Kisumu Governor Nyong’o and sister suspended

It was relief for Kisumu County Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong’o and his sister Risper Nyagoy on Tuesday after the court stayed the order to have the duo arrested.

The court further put aside the High Court order to have Nyong’o and his sister include one of their nephews Kenneth Odhiambo Okuthe as a co-administrator of the multimillion estates in contention.

This was after Nyong’o, through their lawyer Chacha Odera, raised issue with Appellate judges’ Hannah Okwengu, Erastus Githinji, and Jamilla Mohammed over the order.

The lawyer told the court that Governor Nyong’o and his sister deposited the Kshs 900,000 fine last week as had been ordered by the  court.

The Appellate judges will however give directions on the two applications filed by Nyong’o and his sister on October 3, 2019.

In the meantime the court has directed both parties to file written submissions on the main appeal by Nyong’o and his sister and take a date at the registry.

This follows a ruling by Kisumu High Court judge Thrispisa Cherere last week where the duo were committed to civil jail for 30 days after being found guilty of contempt.
