Auctioneer in Westlands demolition freed on Ksh.200K bail

Zachary Baraza, the auctioneer who effected
the eviction and demolition of a Ksh.80 million home in Westlands on November 4
has been released on a Ksh.200,000 bail.
The High Court in Nairobi, on Thursday, ordered
Baraza to report to the investigating officer whenever he is summoned to do so.
The auctioneer was arrested over the violent
eviction of Niraj Shah and Avani Shah from their house in Westlands area, Nairobi.
He was arraigned in to court on Wednesday,
November 9 under a miscellaneous application.
The High Court on Wednesday
had ordered the auctioneer and his lawyer to swear affidavits explaining circumstances
that led to the wrongful implementation of an order that expressly prohibited
them from demolishing the said property
The prosecution wanted Baraza to be
detained for 14 days and investigators to access the demolished property
belonging to quantify the damage and create an inventory of items allegedly
stolen from the house during the demolition.
