An autopsy on the body of Sammy Kyengo, a construction worker who died at work at the Talanta Sports Stadium, has revealed that he died of mild traumatic head injuries and drowning.

Kyengo had been reported missing on September 6, 2025 within the Talanta Stadium. His body would be discovered one week later, on September 13, floating in the water sump behind terraces under construction. He had visible injuries on the back of the head and the neck.

On Friday, a pair of shoes, gloves, and a jumper were found abandoned in the changing room. These items were subsequently handed over to his widow, Christine, by Kyengo’s foreman at the human resources office.

Notably, this discovery occurred just a day prior to the recovery of Kyengo’s body, which was found lifeless under circumstances that remain under investigation.

Investigators at the scene confirmed that Kyengo had visible injuries on the back of his head and neck, with blood oozing from his nose and mouth. His phone had reportedly been offline since the day of his disappearance.

Christine Kyengo told reporters that her husband had expressed frustrations over delayed wages before he went missing.

“He told me the company had refused to pay them since July. He wanted to claim his money and quit the job,” she said.
