Aye aye, captain: Boinett criticised for naming police boat after himself
Inspector General, Joseph Boinett, recently found himself on the receiving end of Kenyans On Twitter over a police boat name.
After commissioning 6 patrol boats for patrol in Mombasa on Wednesday, IG Boinnet has been accused of inflating his own ego by naming one of the boats after himself.
The Inspector General said the boats would help in responding to emergencies, but Kenyans On Twitter just weren’t willing to let him off so easily.
Earlier today, I commissioned 6 new Police Patrol Boats at the Maritime Police Unit in Kilindini Mombasa, as part of the ongoing Police modernisation programme. The boats will be used to patrol our coastal & inland water bodies to fight crime as well as respond to any emergencies. pic.twitter.com/tiA6W2hn5z

Are you real @JBoinnet? You've named this new police boat after yourself? pic.twitter.com/fCCcogPU1e

and he put his name on them… as if he bought them for his personal use

Funny that these boats are state resources but your name is on them. What does that show us. You claim to be a police inspector yet what you do equates you to a criminal
— hamisi samwel (@HamisiHamisisi) November 8, 2017
was it necessary that you put your name on them?hope they won't be used to harass innocent fishermen like most patrol cars going round collecting 50kshs from every bar

How many have been designated for Lake Victoria?
— Albert Kasembeli (@akasembeli) November 9, 2017
But why did you brand the boats "Boinnet"as if its your property?
— Abdi Ngurusi (@AbdiNgurusi7) November 9, 2017
So a police man has a police boat on his name, did you buy it with your pocket money or it's Kenyan taxes. Toa hio jina Happ sisi hapana tambua. Nonsense

— Diriye Mahamud (@diriye_mahamud) November 9, 2017
To the extend that you can name a boat Boinnet? You think criminals will fear the boat bcz of that name?
— Muteti (@Muteti89476120) November 9, 2017

— Apple Collins (@collins_apple) November 9, 2017

— Collins Java (@CollinsJava) November 9, 2017
The IG will tell you they are investigating how his name found its way on the boat
