Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Kenya, Sultan
Hajiyev, visited the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) to inspect
ongoing work on a state-of-the-art Youth Leadership and Innovation Hub, as part
of strengthening Kenya-Azerbaijan relations and empowering young leaders.
The hub, backed by the Azerbaijan
International Development Agency (AIDA) and the Azerbaijani Embassy in Nairobi,
is part of a broader initiative aimed at equipping young Kenyans with skills in
innovation, climate action, and entrepreneurship.
Speaking during the visit, Ambassador
Hajiyev commended the energy and ambition of the youth involved in the
programme.
“What I see here today is a reflection of
hope, creativity, and resilience. This partnership is about more than infrastructure;
it’s about belief in the next generation. Azerbaijan is proud to walk alongside
Kenya in nurturing young leaders who will shape the continent’s future.”
Hajiyey said.
He added that this marked his second visit
to KISE and reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to continued engagement and
collaboration in youth-focused development.
“We believe in long-term partnerships. This
is not a one-time gesture but part of a growing bond between our people,
especially in building platforms for young voices to thrive,” stated envoy.
KISE Director Norman Kiogora expressed deep
appreciation to the Azerbaijani government for selecting KISE as the host
institution for the innovation hub.
He described the initiative as “a
transformative milestone that unlocks potential and drives inclusive progress.
“This hub represents more than just
infrastructure; it symbolizes trust, opportunity, and a shared belief in the
power of youth to shape the future,” Dr Kiogora said.
A highlight of the event was the
presentation of a $18,000 (about Ksh.2.3 million) cheque to The Young People’s
Network International (TYPNI) and the Association of County Students
Association Presidents – Kenya (ACSAP-K), who will jointly oversee the
operations of the hub.
The total project funding stands at $34,000
(Ksh.4.4 million), with the second tranche of $16,000 (Ksh.2.1 million) to be
released upon completion of the first phase.
The Youth Leadership and Innovation Hub
will provide access to modern training tools, mentorship programmes, and a
collaborative space for young people to create and implement impactful
community projects.
