A group of lawmakers affiliated with the Azimio la Umoja coalition has demanded that the United States of America's Ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman, retract her remarks in which she declared the August 2022 General Election to be free and fair.

The US envoy stated at the start of the Devolution Conference in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, on Wednesday that the most recent poll was the most credible poll the country has ever held.

"...what I witnessed was nothing short of remarkable. Kenya held, what many analysts and commentators say, was the free-est, fairest and most credible election in Kenyan history,” she stated.

Azimio Senators Enoch Wambua, Moses Kajwang, and Oburu Oginga told the envoy to stay out of Kenyan politics during a press conference on Thursday.

The trio also stated that Ambassador Whitman's remarks do not reflect the US's support for democracy.

The leaders also chastised the ambassador for supporting the current tax burden imposed on Kenyans, claiming that Whitman's remarks could undermine the ongoing national talks.
