The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party on Saturday announced its leadership at the Senate and the National Assembly following a consultative two-day retreat held at the Stoni Athi Resort in Machakos County.

Kalonzo Musyoka, one of the coalition’s co principals, announced the leadership changes at Upper Hill in Nairobi following the conclusion of the caucus that started on Friday.

"The group meeting that was held on September 16th and 17th has come to an end. In the meeting, the Parliamentary group took stock of the state of the nation and developed its plan for the 13th Parliament," said Kalonzo.

In the Senate, Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo was announced as the Minority Leader while his Kitui counterpart Enock Wambua will serve as deputy.

Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo was named the Senate Minority Whip, deputised by Nairobi’s Edwin Sifuna.

In the National Assembly, Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi clinched the coalition's Majority Leader slot with Kathiani legislator Robert Mbui as his deputy.

Vocal Suna East MP Junet Mohamed was announced as Majority Whip in the House, while Nominated MP Sabina Chege will serve as his deputy.

However, with both Raila Odinga's Azimio and the President William Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza alliance claiming majority status in the National Assembly, a showdown now looms in the House.

Speaker Moses Wetangula now faces the hard task of breaking the stalemate and giving a decision on which is the actual majority side depending on their individual numbers.
