Azimio to brief nation on its preparedness for Monday protests, says Sifuna
According to Sifuna, the briefing will be to assure Kenyans of a peaceful plan of action as it will be in full accordance with the constitution.
"We will be giving a media briefing tomorrow as the leadership of Nairobi on the preparations for the 20th. We want to assure people so that they can rest easy," he said during a Citizen TV's Daybreak show on Thursday.
Sifuna added that he will be penning letters to Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and other relevant security agencies to provide a myriad of demands they want to facilitate the protests.
"We will write to the head of traffic in Nairobi to inform him which roads are going to be affected," said Sifuna.
"We will write to the governor, I have told him that we will receive visitors with dignity and he should not embarrass us. We want clean public toilets so that people can use them, running water in Nairobi and ambulances because somebody can faint of exhaustion."
Sifuna argued that the law provides an avenue where an individual planning to hold protests can make requests to the state on what they need, provided they are peaceful.
"We went to court to get guidelines on how to exercise the rights under article 27. We have the blueprint on how to successfully undertake maandamano and that is what we are going to implement," he noted.
"When we ask for these things they are our rights, they are not favours. We know our responsibility and we are prepared."
The legislator also affirmed that Azimio is fully aware and ready for the legal or political ramifications that will come thereafter.
