Junet, Kenneth & Kega among 11-members picked to lead Azimio presidential campaign team

Azimio La Umoja One Kenya presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga has unveiled the camp’s campaign teams divided into 16 different regions across the country.  

With 76 days left until the August 9 polls, Odinga has designated an 11-member team to head his campaigns, among them former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth and Azimio’s Executive Secretary Junet Mohammed.

Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua who are putting up final touches to what they have termed as a vicious nationwide campaign are also said to have deployed tack to ensure they cover more ground by splitting teams to run grassroot campaigns before the national team combs the regions in a circuit of rallies. 

The duo will be holding both joint and separate rallies with a team of 11 coalescing around them.

Junet Mohamed will be leading the presidential team alongside Peter Kenneth, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Nyeri Deputy Governor Carol Karugu, Philip Pande, Mishi Mboko, Opiyo Wandayi, Richard Onyonka, Caleb Amisi, Maina Kamanda and Kanini Kega.

In Western Kenya, Governor Wycliffe Wparanya and CS Eugene Wamalwa will be leading a team that comprises Wafula Wamunyinyi, George Natembeya, Eseli Simiyu, Emmanuel Wangwe, Paul Otuoma, Ayub Savula, George Khaniri and Sospeter Ojamong.

At the same time, Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho will be in charge of the Coast region with a team of leaders comprising Granton Samboja, Suleiman Shahbal, Gideon Mungaro, Joyce Lay, Omar Boga and Abdulswamad Shariff.

To eat into Deputy President William Ruto's home turf in the Rift Valley Region, Odinga has deployed former ambassador to Austria Stephen Tarus, KANU Secretary General Nick Salat, John Lonyangapuo, John Munyes and David Pkosing.

Agriculture CS Peter Munya together with Sabina Shege and Governor Lee Kinyajui will lead the Odinga campaigns in the Central Kenya region and will work with all Azimio MPs and aspirants from the president's backyard. 

They will be assisted by Governors Nderitu Muriithi, Francis Kimemia and James Nyoro.

Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi and Gender CAS Rachael Shebesh have been tasked to deliver Nairobi alongside all the Azimio aspirants in the city.

Kisii Governor James Ongwae,  ODM Chairman John Mbadi and Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati will take over the Nyanza bloc with several other leaders in their team.

Joseph ole Lenku will be leading a team in Maasai land that comprises Ledama ole Kina, Moitalel ole Kenta, and Memusi Kanchori among others.

CS Ukur Yattani and Faisal Abbas will be leading the North Eastern campaigns with MPs Adan Keynan, Fatuma Gedi, Fatuma Dulloh, Governor Korane, among others.

 

Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has been tasked to lead the Ukambani campaigns to deliver the lower eastern.

Odinga who intends to tap largely into the women vote, has tasked Governor Charity Ngilu and Homa Bay Woman Rep Gladys Wanga to lead the hunt for women votes while Nominated Senator Isaac Ngugi will lead the young turks that include Janet Ruthuku, Hezena Lemaletian, Solomon Kuria, Alex Natere and Anthony Manyara for the youth rallies.

The teams start their assignments this week with Odinga scheduled for a week long tour of Western Kenya on Wednesday with his running mate Martha Karua returning to the Mount Kenya region Tuesday with scheduled rallies in Naibor, Nanyuki, Ngobit, Makutano, Wiyumiririe, Maili Nne and Nyahururu towns in Laikipia County.
