Speaking on Citizen TV’s Sunday Live show, Owino alleged that more than 200 individuals were mobilised to attack him and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna at the airport and disrupt their travel plans to Kakamega.
“We were supposed to go via Kisumu International Airport… yesterday, Raymond Omollo is the one who sponsored goons to access Kisumu International Airport, waiting for Babu Owino and Edwin Sifuna,” Owino said, adding that the group was allegedly armed with crude weapons.
Owino further claimed that one person was killed during the chaos and linked the death to the alleged attackers, saying the family of a man identified as George Olwandi had addressed the media over the incident.
He also claimed he reached out to Omollo directly, accusing him of attempting to engineer clashes.
“I texted Raymond Omollo…,” Owino said, adding that he had warned the PS against what he described as “immature” tactics.
The Embakasi East lawmaker further alleged that the incident followed the arrest of his brother-in-law, who he claimed was later dropped in Machakos after public pressure.
Owino said the violence was part of a broader trend in which unemployed youths were being exploited for political ends, alleging they were being paid to cause destruction.
He also questioned how civilians could obtain tear gas, suggesting it may have been supplied by police.
“Where did these citizens get teargas from if it is not from the police?” he posed.
