Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino on Thursday presented himself before the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Kiambu to record a statement over the chaos witnessed two weeks ago during Deputy President William Ruto's rally in Jacaranda.

According to Babu who is affiliated with the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition, he presented himself to the DCi since his political rivals in the Kenya Kwanza camp have been tainting his name and that of his party leader over the Jacaranda chaos.

Speaking outside the DCI headquarters, the MP said his aim was to clear his name and shed light on the matter where he was accused of planning the chaos that disrupted a Kenya Kwanza rally at the Jacaranda Grounds in Emabakasi, Nairobi.

“I have decided to present myself at the DCI headquarters to clear my name against allegations levelled against my good name involving the Jacaranda chaos,” Babu said.

“I want to let Kenyans know that I was not involved in this issue because my unworthy opponents are moving everywhere soiling my name that I was involved…"

Owino instead accused the Deputy President William Ruto-led outfit of staging the violence in a bid to tarnish the name of Azimio's flag bearer Raila Odinga.

"I want to say categorically that I was not involved, it is the Tanga Tanga movement that organised their own stoning at Jacaranda grounds," he remarked.

"I can assure you that the stoning that occurred in Jacaranda was a sign and a result of attracting sympathy; there is no sympathy in a presidential race. Ruto wants sympathy."

On why he had presented himself without summoning by the multi-agency body, Babu said: "I have presented myself because every opportunity the Tanga Tanga movement gets, they soil my name that it is me who organised the chaos and they soil the name of baba."

He added: “They stoned themselves and anyone who alleges must prove…si kila wakati kusema Babu ako involved kwa hii Jacaranda chaos, hatutaki kuskia, we want to bury it."

While challenging DP Ruto to present himself to the DCI and record a statement on the matter.

"I challenge Ruto to come here tomorrow to clear his name. I know these people want to use these allegations so that they can use it at the Supreme Court for the elections to be nullified after we defeat them,” the MP said.
