Bahati: I was offered Ksh.50 million to quit Mathare MP race

Bahati says opponents offered him money to step down.

Singer Kevin Bahati Kioko says he was offered Ksh 50 million to drop out of the Mathare MP contest in favour of his opponent.

Speaking on Radio Citizen, Bahati said that all his opponents are not residents of Mathare and have been engaging him in talks to step down.

“I was told I will be given a job. But I am not looking for a job, I am earning a living from my music," he said.

People have come with offers they want to pay me to step down. They have offered me millions, up to Ksh.50 million. They know that when they get to office they will regain the money,” Bahati said.

According to the 'Mama' hitmaker, who is contesting under Jubilee Party, his competitors have realised he cannot be compromised and are now exploiting other avenues.

He named his worthy competitor Anthony Oluoch, as one of those who approached him, asking for his support.

“He told me to do a campaign song for him and support him. They want to use a person from Mathare to get to the people,” he added.

The singer, who is a newbie in the political arena also said that true friends are hard to find in politics.

“I miss genuine friends, in politics you seat with a friend who says what they do not mean. Most politicians are not genuine,” he said.

Bahati’s statements comes at a time where he is at crossroads with the Azimio Coalition, which recently announced Anthony Oluoch as their preffered candidate to contest for the Mathare MP seat.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, during a joint delegates meeting of ODM and Jubilee on Monday said they will talk to Bahati, to have him step down and be considered for an appointment in the Azimio government.

“We only have one candidate in Mathare and that is Anthony Oluoch, this young man called Bahati is my younger brother and we will talk. I will make sure that we find him another position within the Azimio government,” Sifuna said.
