58-year-old man killed by leopard in Baringo
A 58-year old man
died on Tuesday after he was attacked by a leopard in Baringo South on Sunday.
The deceased,
Amdany Cherop was receiving treatment at Baringo County Referral Hospital in Kabarnet, but succumbed to injuries
inflicted by the wild animal.
Reports indicated
that Cherop was looking after
his cows in Sogon village when the wild cat suddenly emerged from the nearby
bushes and attacked him.
"My brother
was attacked while looking after his animals at around 12 noon on Sunday. He
was seriously injured on the head and a section of the hand where muscles were
badly damaged,” his brother Willy Cherop narrated.
He was rushed to
Kabartonjo Sub-county hospital where he was treated and later referred to
Kabarnet and admitted.
Cherop is said to have
later been taken to Iten Hospital in Elgeyo Marakwet for CT Scan but while
returning, he became unconscious and passed on.
The leopard then vanished
into Katimok forest and has never been spotted ever since the attack.
The family of the
deceased is now demanding compensation from the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS).
According to the locals, barely a week ago a similar incident was witnessed in Cheplambus village, Baringo Central when two stray leopards attacked three residents.
