Tension remains high in Teren area of Baringo North after one person was shot dead and two others injured following an ambush by suspected bandits on their way home Thursday night.

The incident prompted security teams from both Elgeyo Marakwet and Baringo to hold a meeting with the locals to avoid a retaliatory attack.

Locals now blame security agencies for failing to arrest the suspect who had once been rescued in Iten referral hospital and has since regrouped, laying ambush on neighbouring communities.

Kerio Valley had witnessed relative calm for the period of 3 months after two other people had been killed in the same area.

The angry locals say the government has failed by not arresting the suspect who is roaming in the area freely, issuing threats to those daring him.

Baringo county commissioner Stephen Kutwo said that the government will take precise action and act to ensure the criminal who was involved is brought to the book.

Baringo North MP Joseph Makilap urged the people of Baringo North to keep peace but at the same time challenged the government to ensure that the Kerio killings come to an end.
