Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi concedes defeat

Baringo County Governor Benjamin Cheboi has conceded defeat after he was trounced by his only opponent Stephen Kiptis in today’s Jubilee Party primaries in the county.

Stanley Kiptis was declared winner after garnering 64,589 votes against Cheboi’s 21,388 votes in an exercise that saw low voter turnout.

In a statement to the press, the governor acknowledged that the gubernatorial race results showed that the Baringo constituents had made their decision and therefore he ought to respect their democratic rights.

“I am satisfied that the exercise was fair. I would like to thank returning officers in Baringo for conducting a peaceful process,” said the governor.

However, Governor Cheboi faulted conduction of the exercise saying it had a few challenges that did not favor his competitiveness.

Among the things he lamented about were the postponement of the nominations on Thursday, April 21, multiple voting using un-serialized ballot papers and the delay iofn today’s voting process.

Cheboi wished the Jubilee candidate all the best in the August 8 polls.
