Migori County ODM office now wants the Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC) to take punitive measure against aspirants who have already started campaigning, saying they had contravened electoral laws by kicking off campaigns before official dates.

The party officials have called on the IEBC to work within their mandate and block those politicians, adding that some have already put up campaign posters within the county.

ODM chairperson Mr. Philip Makabongo also asked ODM Party to bar aspirants from having Raila Odinga’s portrait on their campaign posters or T-shirts before the official campaign dates, saying that they are likely to compromise Odinga’s standing, should IEBC crack down on errant politicians.

At the same time, Migori County ODM branch announced that starting January next year, the party will not allow people who are not officially registered or those who have not paid registration fees to use the party name in campaigns.

The branch chair said that all aspirants will have to carry their party registration certificate and nomination fee payment slip for identification during the campaign period, saying this move would help weed out fakes.
