Blogger Cyprian Nyakundi charged for insulting Governor Sonko
Controversial blogger Cyprian Nyakundi will remain in police custody after a court denied him bail in a case where he is charged with posting offensive messages about Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
Appearing before Kiambu Law Court Resident Magistrate Justus Gituku, Nyakundi however denied the charges.
The offense is contrary to section 84D of the Information and Communication Act No. 1 of 2009 on publishing obscene information in electronic form.
Nyakundi was ordered to pull down his offensive posts against the Governor.
Thr Magistrate further directed that he desist from publishing further insulting posts on his social media accounts or face punitive charges.
In his post last year, Nyakundi took on the Governor over the presentation of oxygen tanks to Mama Lucy Hospital in Kayole, Nairobi.
Using unsavoury language, the blogger blasted Sonko claiming that the tanks can be found with welders.
He was arrested on Wednesday in Nairobi and detained at Muthaiga Police Station where several prominent personalities including politicians and those from the media also filed complaints of being abused by the blogger on social media.
Nyakundi is being held at the Kiambu GK Prisons and is set to appear before the same court on Friday for a ruling on his bond application.
