Bobasi residents want constituency split into two, vow to oppose BBI otherwise

Residents of Bobasi constituency on Wednesday took to the streets to express their displeasure with the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report saying their demands have not been catered for.

The residents, addressing the press in Nyamache town, said they handed a memorandum document to the BBI task force advocating for the split of Bobasi constituency into two separate constituencies.

The angry youth castigated area leadership among them MP Innocent Obiri and Kisii Woman Rep. Janet Ongera for what they termed as not coming out strongly to defend them in their quest for the split.

“We want Bobasi contituency to be subdivided so that services can reach everyone. We are so many here and some of us are left out in service delivery. So we kindly asked President Uhuru Kenyatta and CS Fred Matiang’i to look into this,” said Antony, one of the youth.

“We will not relent until our plight is heard…we will reject BBI proposals in totality.”

Bobasi is the largest constituency in the entire Gusii region followed by South Mugirango.
