Boda boda operators rob man after he sought directions from them

Police in Embu have launched a manhunt for boda boda operators who took advantage of a visitor in the town who sought directions from them and robbed him of Sh27,000 and other valuables.

The man who is said to be new to Embu Town asked to be taken to Country View Hotel where he intended to hire a room for the night.

According to Embu West Sub-County Criminal Investigation Police Boss, Joshua Cheptoo, the operators misdirected the man before robbing him of his money and other valuables.

“The man had arrived at Embu Town on Friday night and went to oil Libya Petrol Station in the town, where boda boda taxi operators wait for passengers and sought their assistance,” he said.

The police boss narrated that the operators asked the victim to get on one of the motor cycles so that they could take him to the hotel, only for the motorbike to head to Njuri forest, about five kilometers from where the hotel is situated, and further towards the forested Njukiri Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) show ground.

They then roughed him up and robbed him of the money, a laptop, passports and other valuables before abandoning him there.

Luckily for the man, he managed to trace his way back to the Kibugu-Embu road where a Good Samaritan assisted him with locating the Embu Police Station where he reported the matter.

The police boss further revealed that they had not yet arrested anybody in connection with the incident but noted that they were investigating the robbery.

The incident comes at a time when various incidents linking boda boda operators to criminal activities have been reported.
