Bomet Governor Barchok freed on Ksh.5M bail

Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok has been freed on a cash bail of Ksh.5 million or a bond of Ksh.15 million in his graft case.

According to the charge sheet, Barchok is accused of acquiring Ksh.2 million from two contracts between November 14, 2019, and March 10, 2021.

The contracts awarded to Chemasus Construction Limited by the County Government of Bomet were for the Routine Maintenance of Kimenderit - Kotoibek - Olbutyo Bridge Road and hiring a grader.

He was also accused of transacting Ksh.300,000 on March 15, 2021, from his Equity Bank Account number to his other Equity Bank Account believed to be proceeds of a crime to wit monies he received from a contractor of the County Government of Bomet.

He also, in a similar fashion, is accused of transferring Ksh.3l4,000 to another bank account on March 20, 2021, and another Ksh.100,000 to his other account.

Barchok denied all 3 charges leveled against him, ranging from Conflict of Interest, Obtaining Proceeds of Crime & Use of Proceeds of Crime.

Evans Kipkoech Korir, a director of Chemasus Construction Limited, is also part of the co-accused on allegations of conflict of interest.

The matter will be mentioned on September 17, 2025.
