Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok has pledged to
gift the county’s Woman Representative aspirant Linet ‘Toto’ Chepkorir a
vehicle to use in her campaigns ahead of the August polls.
Chepkorir, a 24-year-old Bachelor of Business
graduate, made headlines last week after flooring a number of seasoned
politicians to clinch the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket in the
party’s primaries, in a classic tale of an underdog disrupting the perceived
status quo.
Taking to Twitter, Barchok labelled
Chepkorir’s story as one that will inspire many youth to pursue any undertaking
of their choosing, citing that he will also foot her homecoming party bill.
“To enable her cope with the increased
interest in her story I shall provide her a car to facilitate her movement for
the rest of her campaigns as well as provide extra personnel to her family
home to assist with the increased number of visitors,” said Barchok.
“Further to that, I shall sponsor her
homecoming celebrations this Sunday at her Chemamul home. May God give her
wisdom and protect her as she prepares to serve the people of Bomet, especially
women and youth.”
Chepkorir garnered 53,944 votes in the UDA
primaries beating Beatrice Chepkorir (20,495), Chepkoech Mutai (16,644),
Chepkirui Faith (6,863) and Byegon Edah (4,906)
Her
victory in the primaries has almost certainly guaranteed her the Bomet Woman Representative
seat owing to the fact that the region is a largely
UDA stronghold.
