After successfully soliciting for an additional sub-county in his constituency, Bondo Member of Parliament Gideon Ochanda now wants the constituency split into two.

Ochanda lauded the national government for giving them an additional administrative unit, saying that it was long overdue because this will now bring services closer to the people.

He stated that Bondo is vast and extends up to the Lake Victoria waters where they have six habitable Islands and therefore deserved the new sub-county of Usigu which has been hived from Bondo sub-county.

The lawmaker stated however that in order to ensure that the region gets more resources, they also want the constituency sub-divided into two.

Ochanda who spoke to Ramogi Radio argued that Bondo meets the threshold for sub-division, adding that they would wish to be given the priority once the delimitation of political boundaries begins anytime soon.

He on the other hand supported Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s candidature for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission, noting that Mr. Odinga is overqualified for that position.

The Bondo MP stated that Odinga will get that position not as a favor but on merit because he has all that is required for a holder of such a post.
