Bunge La Mwananchi opposes registration of Communist Party of Kenya

The Bunge La Mwananchi movement has written to the Registrar of Political Parties opposing the renaming of Social Democratic Party to Communist Party of Kenya.

The group claims that, through the change of name, the Social Democratic Party intends to promote the communism ideology whereby property and resources are collectively owned by society and not individuals.

This, according to Bunge La Mwananchi group, will grossly offend various articles of the constitution that guarantee the right to property.

“Elementary and basic concept of “communism” envisages an economic and social system in which property and resources are collectively owned by society and not by individual citizens.

“This being the fundamental objective of a communist system, it is untenable for the Registrar of Political Parties to recognize and register the party’s new proposed name without an examination of what it imports for the said Article 40 of the constitution which provides for the Right to property for every person or in association with others of his or her free will,” says Henry Shitanda, the Bunge La Mwananchi president.

Shitanda further casts doubt over the party agenda after the officials announced that they would induct new members for six months, yet they did not give details on what the induction entails.

“It would be irresponsible to register an entity that has publicly declared that it will be training members on an undisclosed syllabus and hence also has the potential to pose a serious regulatory challenge. The party, if registered, will be dangerous to national security and harmony,” claims the group.

“Certain statements by the officials of the party require further interrogation before consideration of their request for change of name. In a presser on the 12th March 2019, and reported in the Star Newspaper on 13th March 2019, the said communist party issued alarming statements regarding their mission and mode of operation. These are of grave concern to Kenyans. We quote “Ours is …… nationalizing and socializing our resources……”

The Bunge La Mwananchi movement says it will not allow the registration of a communist party and recognition of ideals of communism in Kenya.

“We strongly object to the intended change and will challenge any decision of your part that will purport to accept the said application for change of name,” says the group.
