Bureti: Couple arrested after man beats 3-year-old stepdaughter to death

According to the villagers, the man allegedly physically assaulted his daughter on Wednesday evening and critically injured her.

The villagers revealed that the man usually beats the child whenever he arrives home from his drinking spree for allegedly not being her biological father.

Neighbours said on the fateful day, the man arrived home and picked up a quarrel with his wife before turning to the daughter with blows and kicks until she lost consciousness.

They revealed that whenever the man was on his drinking spree, his friends normally mocked him for allegedly marrying a woman with a child, a thing which apparently infuriated the man.

As he was assaulting the child, the mother raised an alarm which attracted the attention of other villagers who rushed to the scene and rushed the child to Roret Health Centre where first aid was administered before being transferred to Kericho County Referral Hospital for further treatment.

However, the child succumbed to the injuries as the doctors were attempting to resuscitate her.

Police officers from Kericho police station were informed of the incident and arrested the duo at the hospital.

The body of the child was moved to the same hospital mortuary.
