Busia: 25-year-old secondary school teacher hacks his 96-year-old grandmother to death

Grief has engulfed Kisoko village in Nambale sub-county, Busia, after a 25-year-old man stabbed his 96-year-old grandmother to death with a knife.

According to the deceased's family, led by Florence Nabwire, the suspect, Bernard Okwara, a teacher at Nanderema secondary school in Samia, attacked and killed his grandmother, Clare Oruko, who was in her kitchen.

Following the incident, neighbors and family members cornered the suspect and tied him to a tree before calling the police.

According to the family, the suspect has been receiving treatment at a hospital in Kakamega for mental health issues.

The deceased's body has been transferred to the Busia County Referral Hospital Mortuary, while the suspect is being held at Nambale police station pending an investigation into the incident.
