Butere Member of Parliament Tindi Mwale has defected to the Raila Odinga-led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ahead of the August General Elections.

Mwale ditched Wafula Wamunyinyi's Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), which, however, is still under the Azimio la Umoja umbrella together with ODM.

The lawmaker made the move as Odinga led Azimio campaigns in Kakamega on Saturday, after which he was given a direct ticket to defend his seat.

The MP had decamped to DAP-K a month ago from Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress (ANC) party.

"I told you I want all of us to work together, that is why I have looked for kijana yangu Tindi Mwale. I told him to come to this side so that we can fight together. Our first ticket I want to give him so that we usher him to the party officially," Odinga said.

In his itinerary to Kakamega, Odinga was joined by the newly joined NARC-Kenya party leader Martha Karua alongside other Azimio allied leaders among them; Governors Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega), Wilber Otichillo (Vihiga), MPs Emmanuel Wangwe (Navakholo), Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja) and Elsie Muhanda (Kakamega Woman Rep).
