Buzeki concedes defeat in Uasin Gishu Governor race
Businessman Zedekiah Bundotich alias Buzeki
has accepted defeat in the Uasin Gishu County gubernatorial race after IEBC
declared his opponent Jonathan Bii Governor-elect.
The final tallies from IEBC showed that
Buzeki had garnered 127,013 votes while Bii, who is well known as Koti moja had
214,036 votes.
On Friday morning, Buzeki, who has now lost
the gubernatorial race for the second time accepted defeat, congratulating his
main opponent for the win.
“The great people of UG have spoken. Your decision
has been communicated at the ballot. We
had our say of Uongozi ni sera, but the majority have had their way through
universal suffrage,” he wrote.
“With official results announced by IEBC
last night, I take this opportunity to congratulate the Governor elect as he
takes over leadership, in addressing developmental
needs of our people,” he added.
Buzeki assured Bii that he will have “their
support and prayers” adding that the county needs them all to move forward.
“To my supporters, I thank you so much for
your overwhelming support and believe in tai
ole tai ideologies. We won the ideological War, but lost the election
battle. We will continue contributing to
our Community's socio economic needs where we can. Let's now get out strongly
to work and contribute to the development of our County. Politics are now
behind us,” Buzeki concluded.
In a fierce battle for the Uasin Gishu
seat, Buzeki also emerged second after outgoing Governor Jackson Mandago was
elected in the 2017 General Election.
Then, Buzeki had been trounced by Mandago
in the Jubilee Party primaries and resorted to contesting as an Independent
candidate.
Mandago won the race by 193,604 votes,
while Buzeki followed closely with 148,121 votes.
