Cabinet Secretaries venture into politics: Who might they face?

As the Wednesday resignation deadline for all civil servants
eyeing elective posts lapses, four Cabinet Secretaries; Charles Keter, Sicily
Kariuki, Adan Mohamed and John Munyes have announced their departure.
The four are all seeking gubernatorial seats in the August 9
elections, so who are they jumping into the race against?
Charles Keter who has been the Devolution CS is eyeing the
Kericho County top job. He has previously served in the energy ministry up to
September last year when he was moved to Devolution in a cabinet reshuffle.
In his bid to succeed Paul Chepkwony, Keter could face
incumbent Deputy Governor Lily Ngok, Engineer Fred Kirui and Dr. Eric Mutai, a
lecturer at Embu university amongst others.
At the same time, immediate former East African Community
& Regional Integration Cabinet Secretary CS Adan Mohamed who is seeking to
succeed Mandera Governor Ali Ibrahim Roba could face Education Chief
Administrative Secretary Hassan Noor Hassan and incumbent senator Mohamed
Maalim Mohamud.
Other players in the Mandera gubernatorial race are county
assembly speaker Mohamed Adan Khalif, Ali Kiti, a banker, as well as
businessmen Feisal Abass and Adan Haji Issack.
In Turkana County, immediate former Petroleum and Mining CS
John Munyes will be contesting for the top job against Erastus Lokaale, the
incumbent county assembly speaker, Turkana Central MP John Lodepe, Turkana
South MP James Lomenen, as well as Jeremiah Lomurukai, the MP for Loima
constituency.
They will be seeking to succeed Governor Josephat Nanok
whose two-year term comes to an end in August
Meanwhile, outgoing Water CS Sicily Kairuki, the latest to
announce her resignation as she eyes the Nyandarua gubernatorial seat, will be
facing current Woman Representative Faith Gitau and former governor Daniel
Waithaka.
Former deputy governor Waithaka Mwangi Kirika and
businessman Dr Moses Kiarie are also in the race to unseat Francis Kimemia as
the Nyandarua County boss.
